castleA draft of a management plan for Phoenix Park that will govern decisions though the next few decades is available online for those who wish to have their say on the park.

May 31, 2009 is the final date for submissions. It is anticipated that the final Conservation Management Plan will be launched later in the year.

It will be the first updating of the park's management plan since 1986. more

Man shot dead in Phoenix Park

mist in trees Publican James Tuohy was found shot dead on the Khyber Road in the park in February 1911. Now his great grand-daughter is investigating possible links between his death and a call some years later to his widow by some of MIchael Collin's men who said they had known the dead man.

Children's playground open for fun

playgroundA new children's playground is open in Phoenix Park.


Opening hours are 9.30am to 5pm and the entrance is on the western side of the walled garden at the Visitor's Centre at Ashtown Castle.

Entry is free and there's loads of parking in the Centre's grounds.

Brendan Nolan has reported on Phoenix Park as a freelance journalist for several decades and was a professional observer at many of the events of the late 20th century related herein.

He was born in Chapelizod in a house beside the churchyard of Le Fanu and counted Phoenix Park as his personal rambling ground through his growing years and beyond.
